WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today released the following statement on news that the economy grew at 3.2 percent in the first quarter of 2010 led by a resurgence in consumer spending. This marks the third straight quarterly gain in the GDP.
“Democrats in Congress have been working with President Obama over the last sixteen months to dig our economy out of the worst recession since the Great Depression. Today’s news of economic growth further highlights that we are making progress, but much work remains to be done.
“Unfortunately, Congressional Republicans continue to stand in the way of progress and seem to relish returning to the policies of the Bush administration that benefitted wealthy special interests – Wall Street banks, credit card companies, big oil, and insurance companies.”
