WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today released the following statement after House leaders, committee chairs and economic experts held a forum to address the current state of our economy and continued efforts to create jobs for Main Street.
“Democrats in Congress continue to work to move our economy in the right direction by creating jobs for Main Street and reforming our financial system—our economy is making progress, but more work still needs to be done. We learned today that manufacturing was up in April, factory orders were up by the highest amount in nine years and car sales jumped 20 percent in April. Pending job creation and Wall Street reform legislation will further strengthen the recovering economy and bring financial stability and security to American families.
“Even with signs that our economy is improving, Congressional Republicans continue to stand in the way of progress, proposing that we return to the failed economic policies of the Bush Administration that led us to the worst economic recession since the Great Depression.”
