Floor Schedule and Procedures Suspensions (3 bills):
This bill builds upon the foundation of the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979 to strengthen Taiwan’s security; support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations that do not require statehood; and require the Secretary of State review the “Guidelines on Relations with Taiwan” and related documents.
This resolution reaffirms the Taiwan Relations Act and Six Assurances as cornerstones of U.S.-Taiwan relations; encourages implementation of the Taiwan Travel Act; reiterates that the President should conduct regular transfers of defense articles consistent with Taiwan’s national requirements, per prior legislation; and calls on the Secretary of State to support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations.
This bill is aimed at strengthening the ability of the State Department to conduct commercial diplomacy in support of U.S. businesses – particularly small and medium enterprises — competing in overseas markets. The provisions draw on bills introduced in prior Congresses, including by former Chairman Howard Berman. |
