Whip Emmer Hosts Roundtable with Key Energy Stakeholders Amid Energy Week

WASHINGTON – Today, Majority Whip Tom Emmer hosted a roundtable with key energy stakeholders to discuss House Republicans’ support for domestic energy security and production. The discussion took place as House Republicans wrap up Energy Week featuring six bills to restore American energy dominance, lower costs for families, and counteract Joe Biden’s Green New Deal agenda.

Whip Emmer was joined by Natural Resources Committee Chairman Bruce Westerman (AR-04), House Energy Action Team Chairman August Pfluger (TX-11), Representatives Mike Collins (GA-10), Jeff Duncan (SC-10), Garret Graves (LA-06), and Randy Weber (TX-14) as well as representatives from coalition groups including American Conservation Coalition Action (ACC Action), America First Policy Institute (AFPI), American Energy Alliance (AEA), American Exploration and Production Council (AXPC), American Fuel & Petroleum Manufacturers (AFPM), American Petroleum Institute (API), Americans for Prosperity (AFP), Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES), and others.

“Americans elected our House Republican majority to counteract Joe Biden’s anti-American energy agenda, and once again, we are delivering,” said Whip Emmer. “It’s a shame House Democrats would rather appease the Green New Deal activists in their party than restore American energy dominance and lower costs for families.”

“As we wrap up this successful energy week, we're continuing our commitment to domestic energy production and American energy independence,” said Chairman Westerman. “Under Republican leadership, the House has passed vital legislation like the Lower Energy Costs Act to ensure all Americans have access to affordable energy produced right here at home. I'd like to thank Majority Whip Tom Emmer for hosting this important conversation with our domestic energy producers as we continue to fight back against the anti-energy agenda of the Biden administration.”

“President Biden has used every tool available to make producing American energy more difficult,” said Chairman Pfluger. “His radical energy policies have hurt our economy, stifled innovation, and threaten the livelihoods of men and women in the oil and gas industry. Energy security is national security, and I am proud that House Republicans are using Energy Week to stand up to White House and protect the Permian Basin.”

“The Biden administration’s war on American energy producers has increased costs on working families, harmed the economy, and threatened our national security,” said Rep. Collins. “I am proud of the House GOP’s commitment to make America energy independent again.”

“The four most important words for American energy are produce, deliver, utilize, and export,” said Rep. Duncan. “America has the vast natural resources needed to generate power and be energy independent, but we have work to do to expand infrastructure like pipelines to deliver energy to the states. Then, we must efficiently utilize energy through an all-the-above energy policy to meet the energy demand of today and for the future. That means increasing baseload power generation while using new, innovative technologies in tandem with renewables to keep the lights on for Americans. Lastly, we must export energy to our allies around the world to bolster our global positioning, experience the economic benefits of energy independence, and support allies who are trying to end their dependence on Russia, China, and OPEC for energy.”

"Americans can't afford to fill their cars or pay utility bills. Biden has blocked American energy production and put billions of dollars in new burdensome regulations in place,” said Rep. Graves. “All of this translates to weakening America and strengthening Russia, Iran, China, and others. Our families simply can't afford President Biden.”

“Southeast Texas is the energy capital of the world, and we know the important role American energy plays for our nation, our allies, and for everyday life,” said Rep. Weber. “Joe Biden has assaulted the very industry that keeps this nation running, and it is a tragedy. House Republicans will continue to unleash American energy because we produce energy more safely and cleanly than any other nation in the world.”

Background:

House Republicans have introduced seven key pieces of legislation to counteract Joe Biden’s war on American energy.

  1. H.R. 1, which restores America’s energy independence and lower costs by increasing the production and export of American energy and reducing regulatory burdens through permitting reform.

  2. H.R. 1023, which repeals and rescinds the EPA’s $27 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.

  3. H. Res. 987, which denounces the Biden administration’s anti-America energy policies.

  4. H.R. 1121, which prohibits the president from declaring a moratorium on the use of hydraulic fracturing unless Congress authorizes the moratorium.

  5. H.R. 6009, which requires the Bureau of Land Management to withdraw a proposed rule relating to fluid mineral leases and the leasing process.

  6. H.R. 7023, which reforms and restores permitting processes under the Clean Water Act.

  7. H.Con.Res. 86, which expresses Congressional disapproval of President Biden’s planned carbon tax.
