House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) issued the following statement in response to Vice President JD Vance’s announcement blocking nearly one million fraudsters from accessing federal loans. 

“Today, Vice President Vance announced a major win for American taxpayers: if you steal from hardworking Americans, then you should be disqualified from ever receiving a federal loan again. Federal funding is a privilege, not a right, and those who cheat the system should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. In Minnesota, the Walz administration allowed Somali fraudsters to defraud government-backed loans and programs. We cannot allow criminals to continue abusing our system without consequence. That is why it is so important for the Trump administration to continue working to identify, capture, and prosecute fraudsters around the country.”

Background:

On September 14, 2026, Vice President JD Vance and FBI Director Kash Patel held a joint press conference in Kansas City to discuss what the Administration has done regarding the fraud crackdown in the United States.

Director Patel announced that the FBI and DOJ have arrested and begun prosecuting 5 of the FBI’s most wanted fraudsters in just 3 months, including Said Abdullahi Ereg in Minnesota, who is accused of stealing more than $4.2 million dollars in the Feeding Our Future Scheme. Vice President Vance also announced that the federal government has blocked nearly one million people from ever receiving a federal loan again due to their involvement in past fraud schemes.
