Today, Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) joined House Republicans to highlight how the Working Families Tax Cuts are benefitting the American people in big ways this Tax Day. During this historic tax season, over 53 million filers claimed at least one of the tax cuts from the bill, and the average refund is up 11% from last year.

Whip Emmer: “On November 5th, 2024, the American people elected a Republican House, Republican Senate, and President Donald J. Trump with a mandate—a mandate for change. Four years of disastrous Bidenomics had Americans feeling the strain of higher prices, falling wages, and record inflation. To put it plainly, President Trump and Republicans were handed an economy in ruin, and for the last 15 months, we’ve worked hard to build it back—brick by brick. The cornerstone of our efforts was the historic Working Families Tax Cuts signed into law by President Trump last July. This Tax Day, millions of Americans are feeling unprecedented relief from this once-in-a-generation bill. The average tax refund, as you heard from Chairman Smith, is up 11% compared to last year. Nearly half of all filers claimed a tax benefit from our tax bill this tax season. That’s tens of millions of taxpayers taking advantage of provisions like no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, the child tax credit, the Social Security tax deduction—the list goes on and on! Every single Democrat, it needs to be emphasized, voted against this tax relief and voted to increase the taxes on all Americans. Every single Democrat. Despite the media and Democrats fighting us every step of the way, Republicans delivered pro-worker, pro-family, and pro-growth policies. Failure was never an option. Make no mistake: When Republicans govern, the American people actually win. The Americans standing here with us today put that on full display. This Tax Day, the real winners of our America-First agenda are clear: Service workers, law enforcement, parents, manufacturers, and everyday Americans. Our work isn’t finished. We still have more to do, but today, we’re celebrating that the American people are keeping more of their hard-earned money in their pocket and making their own decisions on their future.”
