Emmer: House Republicans are doing the hard work President Biden refuses to do

Majority Whip Tom Emmer joined Making Money with Charles Payne to discuss House Republicans’ readiness to do the hard work President Biden refuses to do: negotiate spending reforms in relation to the debt ceiling and take an important step toward restoring American energy independence through the Strategic Production Response Act. On debt ceiling negotiations, Whip Emmer stated that it’s time for President Biden to answer the American people’s call to rein in reckless government spending and work with House Republicans to negotiate real spending reforms that will put our country on a more sustainable track. Whip Emmer also detailed House Republicans’ efforts to unleash American energy independence and replenish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) with new legislation as the Biden administration refuses to take accountability for raiding 40 percent of the SPR – leaving it at the lowest level since 1984.

Whip Emmer on debt ceiling negotiations:

“You’ve got a government that takes in a dollar and for every dollar we take in we’re spending $1.29. That is not sustainable.”

“I think eventually the president is going to understand you’re going to have to sit down and talk with us because it’s not about Republicans and Democrats, this is about the future of this great nation.”

“Mr. President, the phone is ringing. America is calling. Time for you to pick up that phone. House Republicans are ready to answer that call. We’re ready to sit down and have that discussion and be responsible, be sensible, and be reasonable to get this thing done with important, necessary spending reforms that’ll put this country on a better track – a sustainable track – for the next generation and generations to come.”

Whip Emmer on the Strategic Production Response Act:

“What this administration has done is, rather than allow for new production, rather than allow for competition and the marketplace to work, they’ve been draining our emergency supply and selling it to people like China. It’s down 40 percent – you point out 1984 – 40 percent of it is depleted and they don’t have any plan to refill it. That’s what this bill is all about. Again, it’s the first step in restoring American energy independence, which frankly, the Biden administration has ignored.”
