Whip Emmer: “The Democrats have no moral high ground to stand on when it comes to good governance”

On day 37 of the Democrat government shutdown, Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) joined House Republican leadership to slam the Democrat party for their long track record of failed governance and call on them, once again, to reopen the government.

Whip Emmer: “It’s day 37 of the Democrat government shutdown, and one thing has become more clear now than ever: The Democrat party of today is not your grandparents’ Democrat party. They refuse to govern. They resort to hostage taking when they don’t get their way. They routinely put politics over people. And now, they have made communists and assassination-fantasizers the pillars of their party. Democrats claim they want to make life more affordable for hardworking Americans, but every time that they’ve had the majorities in Congress and a Democrat president in the White House, they’ve done the exact opposite. Take the American Rescue Plan under Joe Biden for example, which was later deemed by economic experts as the ‘original sin’ that led to double-digit inflation. Or look at Obamacare, which is so unaffordable they have to pay people to use it. The Democrats have no moral high ground to stand on when it comes to good governance—they don’t know what it is. And when they claim that they’re fighting for you, don’t believe them because if this shutdown has taught us anything, it’s that the Democrats will willingly inflict pain on the American people if they think it gives them political ‘leverage.’ They’re kamikaze politicians, and their constituents deserve better. In stark contrast, however, Republicans have done our jobs. We passed a nonpartisan government funding bill out of the House over a month ago. All we need is five Democrats in the Senate to grow a spine, stand up to the radicals in their party, and join us in getting our clean CR to the president’s desk. Enough is enough. It’s past time for Democrats to end the political games and reopen the government for the people they were elected to serve.”
