Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) joined House Republican leadership on day 22 of the Democrat shutdown to call out Democrats for their opposition to legislation that would help alleviate the pain they’ve inflicted on our troops and essential federal workers.

Whip Emmer: “Democrats have voted twelve times to shut the government down. Twelve times. And now, they’re refusing to support legislation that would help alleviate some of the pain they’ve inflicted on the American people as a result. Earlier this week, the Minority Leader in the House said he opposes legislation that would pay our troops and essential federal workers during the Democrat shutdown. This includes border patrol agents, air traffic controllers, TSA agents, and more—all of whom, by the way, as these speakers have pointed out, are showing up to work without receiving a paycheck while the Democrats play their shutdown games. Some would say the soon-to-be former House Democrat leader went so far as to call this legislation ‘a political ploy.’ I’ll tell you what’s a political ploy: Holding the American people hostage just so you can avoid ‘getting the guillotine’ from your far-left base. That's a political ploy. The good news is, this madness can end immediately if five Senate Democrats would grow a spine, stand up to the radicals in their party, and pass our clean CR to reopen the government. It contains no partisan policy riders, no gimmicks. In fact, it’s the same spending levels that Democrats supported just six months ago and passed 13 times under the Biden administration. We have made the process as plain and simple as possible. To our Senate Democrat colleagues: It’s not too late to do the right and reasonable thing, pass our CR, and reopen the government for the people you were elected to serve. Let’s get it done today.”
