Whip Emmer: “Last week, two innocent lives were taken at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. As a Minnesotan, father, and Catholic – words cannot describe the amount of heartbreak and anger we feel over this unspeakable act of evil. Our prayers continue to be with the victims, their families, and everyone impacted by this horrific event. We pray because—despite what some may say—prayer is powerful. Thank you to FBI Director Patel, Deputy Director Bongino, and our local law enforcement for their efforts. Thank you to President Trump for reaching out to Governor Walz to offer support and ordering all flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of the victims. And thank you to Vice President JD Vance for being in Minnesota today to pay his respects to the victims of this tragedy and their families. They need to know that someone cares. This senseless tragedy was carried out by a very broken and deranged individual. He is the unfortunate picture of the current mental health crisis we have here in the United States—a mental health crisis that has been normalized and exacerbated by extreme Democrat policies. We cannot allow any more innocent lives to be taken by someone who should have received help long before they had the chance to become violent. Not to mention the far-left, anti-law enforcement policies of Tim Walz and Democrats in Minnesota that encourage crime. The way forward is to address the mental health crisis and empower law enforcement to crack down on crime, just as President Trump has done right here in our nation’s capital. The American people elected our Republican trifecta with a mandate to restore law, order, and prosperity to our communities, and that is exactly what we have done over the last seven months. This August, I had the privilege of being back in my home state to discuss how Republicans’ working families tax cut is benefitting Minnesotans. It was an honor to host several Trump administration officials – including Labor Secretary Lori Chavez DeRemer, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin, and Federal Transit Administration Administrator Marc Molinaro – who all helped highlight the ways this once-in-a-generation piece of legislation improves the lives of so many. From no tax on tips and overtime to historic tax relief for American manufacturers that you just heard about from Tom, Minnesota workers and businesses are benefitting from this monumental bill. While in my district, I got to visit New Flyer’s bus manufacturing plant alongside FTA Administrator Molinaro. American manufacturers, like New Flyer, can expect a major boost thanks to provisions like full expensing and bonus depreciation. With 12% of employment in Minnesota being in the manufacturing sector, hundreds of thousands of Minnesota workers stand to benefit. The Republican trifecta’s working families tax cut unleashes growth and opportunity like never before, and we’re just getting started.” |
