Emmer: Congress must pass President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill. Minnesotans’ safety depends on it.

WASHINGTON – In a new op-ed in Alpha News, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) made the case for how Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill will give Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents the tools they need to keep Minnesotans safe. This comes on the heels of Whip Emmer’s visit to the ICE field office in St. Paul last week and ICE’s recent arrest of an Iranian illegal alien in St. Paul with admitted ties to Hezbollah. In case you missed it… Alpha News Majority Whip Tom Emmer June 27, 2025 Minnesota is no stranger to the consequences of radical, open-border policies. In January 2024, an Al-Shabaab terrorist was arrested in Minneapolis after illegally crossing our southern border nearly one year prior. Last August, a Minnesota mom was allegedly killed by an illegal alien in a drunk driving accident. And just this week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials arrested an Iranian national and former member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in St. Paul with “admitted connections to Hezbollah.” Examples like these are why Republicans ran and won on our promises to secure the border, enforce the rule of law, and restore safety to our communities. Now that we have secured the trifecta, it’s time to deliver. And our One Big Beautiful Bill is the legislative vehicle we’re using to get it done. When President Trump was sworn into office six months ago, he hit the ground running on day one to crack down on illegal immigration and secure our borders through a series of executive orders. After four years of anti-law enforcement rhetoric and open-border policies, President Trump is empowering ICE agents and federal law enforcement to actually do their jobs. We’ve seen the results of his decisive action in real time, with a 93 percent decrease in illegal border crossings in the last year alone. Now, it’s Congress’ turn to codify those executive orders into law, and with more criminal illegal aliens — including known terrorists — being discovered in our homeland by the day due to the previous administration’s open-borders agenda, we don’t have another moment to waste. Last week, I had the privilege of visiting the ICE field office in St. Paul where I spoke directly with some of the ICE and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents who put their lives on the line every day to get these criminal illegal aliens off our streets. This sacrifice was made evident just as I arrived when we received word that a St. Paul ICE agent was dragged by a car trying to arrest an illegal alien child sex predator off the streets of Bloomington. While Democrats demonize these men and women, the message during my time at ICE was clear: They’re working around the clock to protect law-abiding Minnesotans, but they need more resources to be able to do their jobs as efficiently and safely as possible. Our One Big Beautiful Bill accomplishes just that. Specifically, this legislation provides funding for:
And that’s just to name a few of the provisions. It also fully funds ICE’s 287(g) program, empowering state and local law enforcement to assist federal immigration officers. The urgency of getting our One Big Beautiful Bill across the finish line cannot be overstated. Contrary to the chaos of the last four years, Minnesotans deserve to know that our communities are protected and our borders are secure. Congress has the legislation to make it happen. Now, we just have to get it across the finish line. Failure is not an option. We must and we will get it done—Minnesotans’ safety depends on it. ### |
