WTAS: Whip Emmer torches Tim Walz over sanctuary state policies, ‘That’s gonna leave a mark’

WASHINGTON – Today, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) joined the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to confront Minnesota Governor Tim Walz on his sanctuary state policies that have benefited criminal illegal aliens at the expense of law-abiding Minnesotans.

Here’s what they’re saying about Whip Emmer’s remarks…

CBS News: “Majority Whip Tom Emmer grilled Tim Walz about his policies as Minnesota governor and accused him of using inflammatory rhetoric when describing Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. ‘You have failed to uphold the rule of law,’ Emmer told Walz.”

Politico: “House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) was also permitted to participate in the proceedings. He used his time to question witnesses to pummel Walz, the 2024 Democratic nominee for vice president, on their state’s approach to working with ICE.

“‘One reason you’re here testifying before us today is because you refuse to cooperate with ICE while states like Florida and Virginia empower their law enforcement to detain and remove criminal illegal aliens,’ Emmer charged.”

Fox 9: “Rep. Tom Emmer grilled Gov. Tim Walz during a U.S. House hearing over remarks he made, including his comparison of ICE to the Nazi secret police, the Gestapo.”

KNSI: “Walz appeared on Capitol Hill and testified that Minnesota wasn’t a sanctuary for illegal immigrants because a bill proposing so failed in the state Legislature in 2023. House Republican Majority Whip Emmer took exception, feeling the state’s actions speak louder than words. ‘Governor, your agenda is clear. Free health care, free college and driver’s licenses for illegals while handcuffing law enforcement when they’re trying to protect our citizens and their communities. If you think that’s not a sanctuary state, you shouldn’t be governor.’”

KSTP: “House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minnesota) told Walz he ‘failed the people of Minnesota’, saying state policies allow illegal immigrants to get taxpayer-supported healthcare, college benefits and drivers licenses.

“Emmer went on to say while Walz doesn’t consider Minnesota a ‘sanctuary state’, policies currently in place suggest otherwise.”

MinnPost: “Rep. Tom Emmer, R-6th District, who is not a member of the oversight panel, was invited as a special guest and joined the GOP effort to batter the witnesses, focusing on Walz.

“‘You claim you are not a sanctuary state, but you provide free health care, college education and driver’s licenses to illegal aliens,’ Emmer said in an angry tirade.

“Emmer also said Walz’s comments about the Gestapo was ‘inflammatory language that put a target on the backs of federal agents.’”

Blaze Media: “During the hearing, Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) confronted Walz for comments he made during a commencement ceremony in May where he said, ‘Donald Trump's modern-day Gestapo is scooping folks up off the street.’”
