WASHINGTON – In a new op-ed in The Daily Caller, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) joined his fellow Minnesota Republicans, Representatives Pete Stauber, Michelle Fischbach, and Brad Finstad, in slamming Tim Walz’s policies that protect illegal aliens over Minnesotans. The delegation’s op-ed comes ahead of Walz’s testimony before the House Oversight Committee on his failed record on immigration.

GOP LAWMAKERS: Protecting Illegal Aliens Over Minnesotans — That’s the Walz Way The Daily Caller Majority Whip Tom Emmer, Rep. Pete Stauber, Rep. Michelle Fischbach, Rep. Brad Finstad June 10, 2025
Four years after his stint as a member of Congress and seven months after his failed vice presidential run, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is returning to our nation’s capital this week to testify before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform about his efforts to solidify Minnesota as a sanctuary state for illegal aliens.
And in anticipation of him lying, deflecting, or making a knucklehead of himself throughout this Congressional hearing, we’re getting ahead of Walz’s performance to arm Minnesotans with the facts about his abysmal record.
Throughout his political career, Tim Walz has played the character of a Greater Minnesota, ag-friendly outdoorsman who pretends to care about the people. But actions speak louder than words, and Walz’s actions in office have proven he cares more about protecting illegal aliens than law-abiding Minnesotans.
His radical, open-border policies date all the way back to when he was first running for governor in 2018 and expressed support for turning Minnesota into a sanctuary state.
Since moving into the governor’s mansion, Walz has signed several bills into law to provide free college, taxpayer-funded health care, and driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.
It’s no wonder an Al-Shabaab terrorist illegally crossed our southern border and made his way to Minneapolis. Walz has turned Minnesota into a magnet for illegal aliens, while leaving innocent civilians to bear the consequences.
Thankfully, the Trump administration is taking deliberate action to keep Minnesotans safe where Tim Walz has failed. ICE agents are working around the clock to arrest criminal illegal aliens like the Tren de Aragua gang member that ICE Saint Paul arrested last week, or the three child sex predators arrested by ICE in January, or the man arrested last month for killing a Minnesota mother while he was drunk driving.
But instead of working alongside ICE to enforce the rule of law and make our communities safe, Tim Walz would rather demonize agents by calling them “Donald Trump’s modern-day Gestapo.” It’s this kind of abhorrent rhetoric that has not only contributed to a 413% increase in assaults against ICE agents, but also made Minnesota a safe haven for violent, illegal aliens at the expense of law-abiding Minnesotans.
Bottom line: Tim Walz has been an abomination to our state, and we’re ready to see him answer for his failures under Congressional oath on Thursday.
By electing President Trump and JD Vance over Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom in a flannel shirt, voters sent a message loud and clear. They’re tired of the far-left, open-border policies that led to a historic number of illegal aliens flooding our communities over the last four years. They’re fed up with Democrat politicians who work harder for the people coming into this country illegally than law-abiding, American taxpayers footing their salaries.
We cannot afford to lose any more innocent lives, like Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, or Rachel Morin. Tim Walz must answer for his pro-illegal alien, anti-Minnesotan agenda that has put the safety of our communities at risk, and House Republicans will hold his feet to the fire.
