ICYMI: Emmer pens new op-ed highlighting President Trump’s first 100 days

WASHINGTON – On the 100th day of President Trump’s second term, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) penned a new op-ed for Alpha News highlighting the ways in which the president is keeping the promises he made to Minnesotans on the campaign trail.

In case you missed it…

100 days have passed since January 20, 2025, and President Trump has delivered on his promises to the people of Minnesota.

It was only nine months ago when then-presidential candidate Donald J. Trump addressed a crowd of thousands in St. Cloud, Minnesota, assuring them they would soon be rescued from the incompetence and failure of the Biden-Harris administration.

And rescue them he did.

First, and perhaps most notably, by stopping the endless flow of illegal aliens through our nation’s border and into our communities. Under President Joe Biden and Border Czar Kamala Harris, encounters of illegal aliens at the Southwest border exceeded 10 million, and the illegal alien population in the United States grew by 28.2%

This mass illegal immigration, fueled by the previous administration’s policies and refusal to enforce the law, wreaked havoc across the nation. From the murders of Laken Riley and Rachel Morin by vicious men let into our country illegally to the historic dollar cost exacted on American taxpayers, the devastating effects of the influx were felt far and wide.

The American people were so burdened by the Biden administration’s dangerous border policies that by July 2024, some 55% of Americans wanted to see immigration into the United States reduced.

That same month, then-presidential candidate Donald Trump told Minnesotans in St. Cloud, “By this time next year, America's borders will be strong, sealed, and secure.” He kept that promise on day one.

By ending catch-and-release policies, shutting down the CBP One app, and launching the largest deportation effort in U.S. history, President Trump effectively brought illegal immigration into the U.S. to a grinding halt.

President Trump’s deportation efforts led to ICE Saint Paul arresting a Sudanese national convicted of rape of a victim under 13, a Mexican national convicted of sexual conduct against a victim under 14, and a Laotian national convicted of child endangerment and criminal conduct against a victim under 13. These arrests show the president’s clear commitment to getting criminal illegal aliens off the streets of Minnesota.

In March 2025, border crossings reached their lowest in history. Promise made, promise kept.

In his first 100 days, President Trump is also making good on his promise to revive the American economy and make America affordable again.

Mere hours after his inauguration, the president ordered agencies to deliver emergency price relief for American families, who incurred a cost of almost $50,000 from the Biden administration’s vast regulatory state.

Since then, the month of March saw cooling inflation and falling consumer prices

On March 17, 2024, the average price per gallon of gas in Minnesota was $2.96 compared to $3.21 the year before and the highest recorded ever in June 2022 at $4.76.

After inheriting record-breaking rising egg prices, the cost of eggs finally began to decrease in March, thanks in large part to the Trump administration’s aggressive efforts to bring them down.

Last July, then-presidential candidate Donald Trump told the crowd in Minnesota, “Starting on Day one, we will end inflation and make America affordable again.” Yet another promise made and promise kept.

President Trump has also taken decisive action to protect women and girls’ sports in Minnesota, pushing back against Tim Walz’s and Keith Ellison’s efforts to continue to allow biological men to compete in women’s sports.

On February 5, the president signed an executive order rightly banning men from competing in women and girls’ sports and restricting federal funds to educational programs that refuse to comply with the order.

This historic step marked President Trump in clear contrast with so-called “leaders” in Minnesota who would rather see female athletes robbed of deserved titles and injured on the court.

“Leaders” like Attorney General Keith Ellison, who is currently using Minnesotans’ taxpayer dollars to sue the Trump administration to allow men to keep invading women-only spaces in Minnesota.

The administration refuses to stand for it, and is necessarily investigating the Minnesota State High School League for refusing to enforce federal civil rights law.

President Trump told Minnesotans last summer, “I will keep men out of women's sports.” Another promise kept.

Not only has the president secured the border, made America affordable again, and fought to keep men out of women’s sports, but he has also worked to root out the rampant antisemitism on college campuses, including the University of Minnesota, boosted American manufacturing and production, and secured over $5 trillion in investments in the United States.

This is what real, effective leadership in The White House looks like.

President Trump is keeping his promises to the people of Minnesota, and we are all better off for it.
