Whip Emmer Hosts U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent, American Manufacturers for “Invest in America” Roundtable

WASHINGTON – Today, Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) hosted an “Invest in America” roundtable with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.), National Association of Manufacturers President and CEO Jay Timmons, and manufacturers from across America, including two from Minnesota’s sixth district.

Whip Emmer was also joined by Representatives Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.), Rep. Adrian Smith (R-Neb.), Mike Kelly (R-Pa.), Kevin Hern (R-Okla.), Randy Feenstra (R-Iowa), Beth Van Duyne (R-Texas), Rudy Yakym (R-Ind.), and Max Miller (R-Ohio).

The group discussed the Trump administration’s work to unleash American manufacturing, the urgent need for Congress to continue the 2017 Trump tax cuts through reconciliation, and efforts to advance financial literacy in America during Financial Literacy Month.

“The American people are hungry for an economic boom that is already underway, but will only be fully realized if Congress acts to continue the 2017 Trump tax cuts through reconciliation,” Whip Emmer said. “This is a top priority for House Republicans, the Trump administration, and American manufacturers alike.”

“Making President Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent will help to secure the stable business environment that investors and managements are seeking,” Secretary Bessent said. “Stability in tax policy fosters certainty, and extending the TCJA will drive growth, investment, and hiring as we enter America’s new economic golden age. I look forward to continuing this important conversation with Majority Whip Emmer and members of Congress to deliver on these important reforms for the American people.”

“Small and large manufacturers from across the country need us to get One Big Beautiful bill that extends President Trump’s successful tax policies across the finish line as soon as possible,” Chairman Smith said. “They know that robust tax relief for those who build in America and deregulation coupled with the Trump Administration’s America First trade policy are the winning formula that will support jobs and small businesses here at home by leveling the playing field for American workers and manufacturers. Americans are already doing better under the leadership of President Trump, with more than $5 trillion in new investment announced since Inauguration Day. I look forward to working with the Trump Administration and my colleagues in Congress to ensure that working families, small businesses, manufacturers, and farmers will not see their taxes go up at the end of this year. Republicans are committed to delivering policies that help Americans earn a living, care for their families, and achieve the American Dream.”

"Current economic conditions make renewal of the 2017 tax reforms even more urgent,” Timmons said. “Passage of the original law ignited job creation, wage growth and investment across the country. And as a result, manufacturers kept our promises by expanding operations, boosting wages and benefits and hiring at record levels. But now key provisions have already expired, and others are set to lapse at the end of this year. It is past time to make these reforms permanent and more competitive. Every day without action harms manufacturers’ ability to invest in America and plan for the future. We will continue working with Majority Whip Emmer, Chairman Smith and Secretary Bessent to restore the certainty that will help manufacturers thrive and prosper because when manufacturing wins, America wins.”
