Whip Emmer Welcomes the Stanley Cup to Congress

WASHINGTON – Today, Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) hosted “From the Ice to the House: the Stanley Cup Experience” in his U.S. Capitol office. Whip Emmer welcomed lawmakers, staff, and hockey fanatics to view and take photos with the world-renowned trophy. Gold medalists Buzz Schneider, Rob McClanahan, Mike Eruzione, and Phil Verchota from the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” U.S. Olympic Hockey team were also in attendance.

The Cup visits Whip Emmer’s office just three weeks before the annual Congressional Hockey Challenge, where the Lawmakers are poised to defend their six-year winning streak against the Lobbyists.

“It was my pleasure to host the iconic Stanley Cup in the U.S. Capitol for the third year in a row,” said Whip Emmer. “The Stanley Cup is not just the single greatest trophy in sports, it more importantly represents the principles of perseverance, excellence, and teamwork. I was grateful to once again put these principles on display in my office today, and remind my colleagues that hockey is far and away the best sport in the world.”

“The National Hockey League is proud to uphold the tradition of bringing the Stanley Cup to Capitol Hill once again this year,” said Rob Wooley, NHL Vice President for Legislative Affairs and Executive Director of the NHL Foundation. “As an avid hockey supporter, player, and coach, Congressman Emmer has been a wonderful host of this iconic trophy and a staunch advocate in Congress for the greatest sport in the world.”

“The welcoming of the Stanley Cup to Capitol Hill just three weeks ahead of the annual Congressional Hockey Challenge is a testament to Congressman Emmer’s commitment, passion, and respect for the sport,” said Nick Lewis, Co-founder and President of the Congressional Hockey Challenge. “I appreciate the Whip’s advocacy for hockey in the halls of Congress, and his continued support of the Congressional Hockey Challenge.”
