Whip Emmer: “House Republicans are going to pass this debt limit. We are going to show people the American government doesn’t have to be dysfunctional. And by the way, we’re also going to show that Republicans, House Republicans under Kevin McCarthy, are the ones that are continuing to lead. We’re going to pass this because the alternative is far worse. Don’t be fooled – there is no such thing as a ‘clean’ debt ceiling increase. That’s about as dirty as it gets – handing Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden a blank check for more of their reckless spending that’s driving inflation and destroying family finances that Jodey was just talking about. With this transformational bill, House Republicans have the opportunity to effect change and implement reforms all while avoiding default. Joe Biden and Senate Democrats have done absolutely nothing but obstruct. Members of Biden’s own party now want him to do the responsible thing and negotiate. Instead, what’s he doing? He’s already threatening a veto. He is playing with Americans’ lives and the economic health of our nation all in the name of his political theater. It’s truly disgusting and revolting. Our members built this legislation from the ground up, and our members are going to pass it. House Republicans, again, are the only ones that are armed with solutions to this problem. It’s time for Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer to show us what they’re made of.”
