WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn released the latest edition of his podcast, the Clyburn Chronicles, featuring a conversation with Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Co-Chair and Colorado Congressman Joe Neguse (CO-02). This month’s episode focused on the recent string of historic legislative wins garnered by President Joe Biden and Congressional Democrats.

Despite having a 50-50 Senate and a slim majority in the House, Congressional Democrats have managed to pass life-changing legislation on behalf of the American people, thanks in part to President Biden.

“In my view, it is his ability to collaborate with folks from across party lines to push through monumental pieces of legislation through the United States Congress,” Congressman Joe Neguse explained. “That is a unique skill set that some Presidents have, and some Presidents don’t. President Biden has it in spades.”

From the American Rescue Plan to the Inflation Reduction Act, this Congress has delivered significant cost-saving relief measures for the American people. As described by Congressman Neguse, the American Rescue Plan “really set the stage for the economic productivity that we are now experiencing as a country today.”

Majority Whip Clyburn agreed, noting that the American Rescue Plan did not garner a single Republican vote in Congress.

“This is a classic example of what we mean when we say putting people over politics,” said Majority Whip Clyburn. “You know, people were hurting. People needed to be rescued, their families. People needed to go back to work. Kids needed to get back in school. We needed to get shots into arms of people to fight off this pandemic. And not a single Republican voted for it. If that’s not putting politics over people, I don’t know what is.”

Congressman Neguse emphasized the importance of passing life-changing legislation for the American people, underlining the core belief driving Congressional Democrats: making America’s greatness accessible and affordable for all.

“Fundamentally, that’s what these bills, these pieces of legislation, these changes in statute, are all about. They’re about people. They’re about helping people; about improving lives of the American people and giving every person in our country the opportunity to be able to succeed and live their dreams,” said Congressman Neguse.

Still, more work remains to be done, Majority Whip Clyburn reflected: “We’ve got to let people know that we didn’t get it all this time, but we got a foundation upon which to build.”
