WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Whip-elect, Congressman James E. Clyburn today made the following remarks about the Iraq Study Group report released today:

"There is no question that the way forward in Iraq will be one of our greatest challenges in the new majority, but we plan to give it the attention, open debate and sober reasoning it deserves. The sacrifices, dedication and patriotism of our elite military and their families deserve no less.

"We have nothing before us but the choice between many difficult options, but we have at our backs the strong sentiment of the American people that a change of course is needed in Iraq. We helped effect that change during the campaign this year and we are committed to seeing it through.

"We appreciate the hard work and recommendations of the Iraq Study Group. We will use this as a guide map, rather than directions on the way forward. We will use it for what it is intended to be-recommendations, and a springboard for a vigorous discussion about the way out of Iraq."
