  1. H.R. 2002 – Taiwan Assurance Act of 2019 (Rep. McCaul – Foreign Affairs)
This bill builds upon the foundation of the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979 to strengthen Taiwan’s security; support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations that do not require statehood; and require the Secretary of State review the “Guidelines on Relations with Taiwan” and related documents.
  1. H.Res. 273 – Reaffirming the United States commitment to Taiwan and to the implementation of the Taiwan Relations Act (Rep. Engel – Foreign Affairs)
This resolution reaffirms the Taiwan Relations Act and Six Assurances as cornerstones of U.S.-Taiwan relations; encourages implementation of the Taiwan Travel Act; reiterates that the President should conduct regular transfers of defense articles consistent with Taiwan’s national requirements, per prior legislation; and calls on the Secretary of State to support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations.
  1. H.R. 1704 – Championing American Business Through Diplomacy Act of 2019 (Rep. McCaul – Foreign Affairs)
This bill is aimed at strengthening the ability of the State Department to conduct commercial diplomacy in support of U.S. businesses – particularly small and medium enterprises -- competing in overseas markets. The provisions draw on bills introduced in prior Congresses, including by former Chairman Howard Berman.
