WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today released the following statement after Senators Kerry and Lieberman unveiled “The American Power Act,” the Senate’s version of clean energy jobs legislation that includes the Rural Energy Savings Program.
“I commend Senators Kerry and Lieberman in their efforts to put together a comprehensive clean energy bill. Their bill incorporates key provisions from the House-passed American Clean Energy and Security Act including creating millions of clean energy jobs, increasing our national security by reducing our dependence on foreign oil and preserving our planet by reducing the pollution that causes global warming.
“Also included in the Senate bill is the Rural Energy Savings Program, which is bipartisan legislation that I authored and introduced here in the House that will create jobs, increase energy efficiency and lower energy bills for rural American families and businesses.
“I strongly urge the Senate to pass a clean energy bill so we that can work together to deliver on our promise to provide the American people with green jobs, a stronger economy and a clean energy future.”
