WASHINGTON, DC-House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today participated in a bipartisan day-long meeting on health reform hosted by President Barack Obama at The Blair House, across the street from the White House.  The Majority Whip focused his remarks in the meeting on containing health care costs by expanding preventative care at Community Health Centers (video here).  Below is Clyburn’s statement on the meeting.

“We learned today there is vast agreement on the need for health reform and the ideas that can bring quality affordable health care for all Americans.  We also heard some areas of difference-for instance the need for accountability and transparency in the insurance industry and establishing national standards for health care.  We welcome workable alternatives to the areas where we don’t see eye-to-eye so we can move forward with this important legislation.

“We’ve been debating this issue for three generations.  We’ve been working on this legislation for almost a year-it’s time to let our plans stand on their merit, so we can put these solutions in place and be the generation that decides, “We’re not going to pass this problem on to our children and grandchildren.”
