#TBT - Pelosi Presser

With Leader Pelosi hosting a presser this morning to celebrate the fourth anniversary of Obamacare, the Whip’s office thought we’d mark the occasion with a #TBT. In 2010 then-Speaker Pelosi told us that we had to pass Obamacare to “find out what is in it.” Well, what’s “in it” has turned out to be a disaster for both the American people as well as Washington Democrats. Americans are facing steep premium increases, new unaffordable deductibles, loss of doctors/preferred medical facilities, or canceled plans altogether. And Congressional Democrats are in complete disarray and many of them are running from the President and his healthcare law.

The Hill: “O-Care premiums to skyrocket” … “Health industry officials say ObamaCare-related premiums will double in some parts of the country, countering claims recently made by the administration.” (Elise Viebeck, “O-Care premiums to skyrocket,” The Hill3/19/14)

Bloomberg: “Obamacare Deductibles 26% Higher Make Cheap Rates a Risk” … “Americans seeking cheap insurance on the Obamacare health exchanges may be in for sticker shock if they get sick next year, as consumers trade lower premiums for out-of-pocket costs that can top $6,000 a person.” (Alex Nussbaum, “Obamacare Deductibles 26% Higher Make Cheap Rates a Risk,” Bloomberg, 11/15/13)

Wall Street Journal – Op-Ed: “You Also Can't Keep Your Doctor” … “I had great cancer doctors and health insurance. My plan was cancelled. Now I worry how long I'll live.” (Edie Littlefield Sundby, “You Also Can't Keep Your Doctor,” The Wall Street Journal – Op-Ed, 11/3/14)

POLITICO: “Florida loss exposes Democrats' disarray on Obamacare” … “Democrats are concerned the health care law’s approval ratings won’t rebound by the time voters go to the polls in November. Even more significantly, they fear the law’s unpopularity — along with President Barack Obama’s flagging approval ratings — could keep Democrats home in November, according to conversations with several top lawmakers and aides.” (Jake Sherman & Burgess Everett, “Florida loss exposes Democrats' disarray on Obamacare,” POLITICO3/20/14)
