Regulations & Taxes Continue To Hamper Small Business Growth

Jun 15, 2011

On Monday, President Obama said that government regulations on small businesses must serve a purpose, and their benefit must exceed their cost.

President Obama Claims The Benefits Of Government Regulation Must Exceed The Cost. “I think everybody here around this table recognizes that having a smart regulatory structure can actually enhance market competitiveness.  But it’s also important to make sure that these regulations are serving a purpose and that the benefits exceed the cost.” (President Obama, Remarks, 6/13/11)

But it’s the very regulations President Obama has put in place, along with the threat of looming tax hikes, that continue to hamper small business and job creation.

Burdensome Regulations & High Taxes Hamper Small Business Growth. “A combination of weak consumer spending, rising taxes and regulatory red tape helped make small business owners more pessimistic in May, according to data released Tuesday, its third consecutive month of decline. The National Federation of Independent Business‘ small-business optimism index dropped 0.3 point to 90.9 in May, following a 0.7 point decline in the prior month to 91.2.” (Javier David, “Small-Business Optimism Drops,” Wall Street Journal, 6/14/11)
