Whip McCarthy Statement on the Retirement of Chairman Buck McKeon

Jan 16, 2014

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement regarding the retirement of Chairman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon:

“For twenty years, Buck McKeon has served his constituents in the ‘People’s House’ with distinction, with a rich legacy as an effective and tireless advocate for the men and women who bravely serve our country in uniform.  When I first came to Congress, I had the honor of working closely with Buck, who served as a mentor especially given that our California districts neighbored in the Antelope Valley.

“Over the past several years, I have had the pleasure of working with the Chairman in accomplishing many things that affect our region, including Edwards Air Force Base’s transition of becoming the lead Test Center in the Air Force, bringing an end to the Defense Department’s furlough policy last year, and working together on most recent defense authorization bill and this month’s budget agreement that will bring stability back to the Defense Department’s strategic planning.  We owe Chairman McKeon a debt of gratitude for his selfless and untiring service to California and our nation, and I know I speak for my House colleagues when I say that the institution of the House will miss him, his leadership, and his ability to forge solutions greatly.  I wish him, his wife Patricia, their six children and thirty-one grandchildren well in his retirement at the end of this year.”
