Whip McCarthy Statement on House Passage of the Exchange Information Disclosure Act

Jan 16, 2014

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement regarding House passage of the Exchange Information Disclosure Act (H.R. 3362):

“In 2008, President Obama promised to lead the most transparent Administration in history. Yet, when it comes to sharing data regarding Obamacare enrollment, this Administration has failed at every turn to provide adequate reports to this Congress and the American people. Since the disastrous launch of the exchange website, the Administration has only sporadically provided Congress and the American with incomplete data regarding enrollment in the exchanges. These reports only specify who has ‘selected’ and not purchased plans through the exchange. However, what we do know is that the Administration has fallen short on their total enrollment goal. We also know that the older and less healthy Americans are signing up at rates disproportionate to the younger and healthier – which undermines the cost structure of our healthcare system and will drive up costs for all Americans. I urge Leader Reid to pass this commonsense reform and for the President to sign it into law. The American people deserve to know just how flawed the implementation of this law has been, and how it will affect themselves and their families.”
