McCarthy Statement on the President’s Missing Budget

Feb 4, 2013

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement regarding the President’s failure to submit his FY14 budget request to Congress in compliance with the law:

"The President is required by law to submit his budget to Congress today. For the fourth time in five years he has failed to meet this obligation. The President’s cavalier approach to the national debt is totally unacceptable. His failure to meet simple deadlines has been compounded by trillion dollar deficits that have fueled the growth of our debt by nearly $6 trillion in four years. The Administration’s out-of-control deficit spending is piling up new debt on the backs of the American people who, unlike the President, must budget responsibly and live within their means. Why isn’t the President held to the same standard? This is exactly why the House will consider legislation this week that will require the President to submit a budget to Congress that balances. We cannot begin to turn our economy around and get Americans back to work until we have a serious budget from the President.”
