McCarthy Statement Marking the Second Anniversary of ObamaCare
Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-22) released the following statement marking the two year anniversary of ObamaCare:
“Two years ago, Americans watched as Congressional Democrats forced through the House the more than $1 trillion government takeover of healthcare we know as ObamaCare. Despite the objections expressed by families and small businesses, the President and Congressional Democrats moved the bill forward – promising it would extend coverage and lower premiums while not adding to the deficit. They told us that ‘if you like your plan, you can keep it.’ We now know this isn't true.
“Just this week, a report from the Congressional Budget Office warned that ObamaCare could cause up to 20 million Americans to lose their employer-provided coverage. In a separate report, the CBO noted that the cost of the legislation has now nearly doubled to $1.8 trillion – a figure we simply can’t afford with our national debt at $15 trillion.
“House Republicans remain committed to the full repeal of ObamaCare. There is a smarter way to expand access to care and lower costs. We know Washington is the problem, not the solution, when it comes to our economy, getting people back to work, and our personal health care decisions. We hope that the President and Senate Democrats will realize what the majority of Americans already know – this legislation is harmful and must be repealed.”
