McCarthy Statement on Latest ObamaCare Delay

Feb 10, 2014

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement regarding the latest delay of the employer mandate provision in the President’s healthcare law:

“Just a few short weeks ago during the State of the Union, the President declared he would bypass the legislative process with executive actions when he deemed appropriate. This statement has led to a robust debate throughout the country, and raised serious concerns among myself and my colleagues. Today, the President is living up to his promise to bypass the legislative process by once again refusing to enforce the law so that he can once again delay for just some businesses the unworkable employer mandate provision within his healthcare law – the law he proposed, helped author and signed into law. Not surprisingly, this decision comes on the heels of a report by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office which found that Obamacare will result in the loss of 2.5 million “full-time equivalent” workers in 2024. It’s time we give every American the same relief from the law that the President has granted to businesses by working toward a legislative solution to delay Obamacare for everyone. It’s time the President work with Congress instead of bypassing it.”
