McCarthy Statement on December Jobs Report

Jan 4, 2013

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement regarding this morning’s employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“Today’s jobs report underscores the critical task facing lawmakers in Washington to tackle our out-of-control government spending to ensure long-term economic vitality for future generations. Over the last four years under the President’s failed leadership, the national debt has increased sixty percent, and as a result of Washington’s reckless spending the national debt now totals $16.4 trillion. Our priority over the next two months is to stave off an impending debt crisis that threatens immediate and future economic growth and job creation.

“After the most recent fiscal cliff negotiations, it is clear that revenue is not the problem and therefore, the debate for increasing revenue is over. Now it is time for the President to take ownership of his annual trillion dollar deficits by working with House Republicans to make serious spending reforms in federal programs that are driving immense deficits.”
