McCarthy Statement on Bipartisan Passage of the Water Resources Reform and Development Act

Oct 23, 2013

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement following House passage of the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (H.R. 3080):

“Our nation’s waterways and ports have long been vital to American prosperity. Entrepreneurs and manufacturers depend on the ability to sell and receive goods from overseas to grow their business and create jobs. However, burdensome environmental reviews and red tape over the past several years have inhibited needed improvements and upgrades to keep commerce flowing throughout the country. The Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2013 will implement important reforms that will give the Army Corps of Engineers greater flexibility to prioritize and complete projects. It will also ensure hard deadlines are set for environmental reviews that have derailed past projects and sidetracked millions of dollars in potential investments. The compliance and regulatory certainty provided by this legislation is essential in determining if an investment should be made. Without it, our water infrastructure will crumble under the weight of the federal government. I applaud Chairman Shuster and the Members of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for their tireless work and leadership on this crucial legislation.”
