McCarthy Statement on August Jobs Report

Sep 6, 2013

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement regarding this morning’s employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“Today's jobs report for August illustrates an economy that is consistently underperforming due to the policies of the Obama Administration. New job prospects remain dim, and many Americans are choosing to simply stop looking for work. In August, the percentage of Americans active in the labor force fell to its lowest rate since 1978.  That is not the American dream that this country was founded on. The President must take advantage of the opportunity offered by low cost natural gas and increased exports. This will strengthen our manufacturing base, encourage investment, and create millions of jobs. The President must also embrace the pro-growth energy policy that has been advanced on the floor of the House and support the bipartisan framework for comprehensive tax reform led by Chairmen Camp and Baucus. In the midst of the slowest economic recovery in modern history, we cannot settle for the anemic job growth and the continued depletion of our workforce.”
