McCarthy: President's Budget Spends, Taxes and Borrows Too Much
Washington, D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) released the following statement in response to President Obama’s FY2012 budget request:
"President Obama’s budget spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much. While American families struggle to live within their means during these challenging times, the President’s proposed budget makes it clear he still doesn’t understand the negative impact government overspending has on the ability to create jobs. President Obama and congressional Democrats’ spending binge has exploded America’s debt and deficit, hurt job creation, and endangered our economy – yet this budget is simply more of the same. The President and his advisors continue to promote the illusion that government can borrow and spend our way to prosperity – a view putting them at odds not just with the facts, but with the American people. The spending binge in Washington is a barrier to economic growth and private-sector job creation and it must come to an end.
"House Republicans are working on a plan that will instead create jobs by shrinking the size of government and put in place real spending reforms to cut spending both immediately and in the long-term. Rather than continuing to kick the can down the road, we must make tough decisions now to provide a safe and secure future for our children. I believe this is possible and I hope President Obama will join with us in making this a reality."
