McCarthy: President’s Proposal Increases Energy Costs, Reverses Job Creation

Jun 25, 2013

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement in regard to the President’s proposal for increased regulations that will make energy more expensive:

“As our nation stands on the cusp of energy independence, today’s proposal by the White House of increased regulations that will raise the price of energy is a shocking and deeply disappointing response to the economic resurgence from responsible energy development. Equally troubling is an advisor to the President claiming that, ‘a war on coal is exactly what's needed.’ The President's proposal circumvents Congress and willfully increases electricity costs for American families and businesses while killing job creation. This is not what Americans are looking for from their leaders in Washington.

“In contrast, the Republican energy plan, elements of which will be considered on the House floor this week, takes a distinctly different path. By harnessing innovative technologies, we embrace the responsible development of all of our energy resources, lowering the energy cost for families and businesses, creating millions of jobs and providing an overall better way of life for the American people. House Republicans will continue to listen to the American people and fight policies that thwart economic opportunity.”
