McCarthy Applauds Passage of the FY 2014 Energy and Water Appropriations Bill

Jul 10, 2013

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement following the passage of H.R. 2609, the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act:

“Tonight’s vote provides funding critical to protecting our national security, maintaining our nation’s waterways, and continuing the basic science research needed to further our goal to become energy independent.  This was accomplished while also finding $2.9 billion in savings over last year by shrinking government involvement in activities better suited for the private sector. While the President’s FY2014 energy budget requests continue to be driven by picking winners and losers, we prioritize basic energy research that will responsibly add to our productive energy portfolio and address the immediate concerns of job creation and high energy costs. I want to thank Subcommittee Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen for his leadership on this appropriations bill.  As the House continues to advance legislation that addresses our nation’s needs in a fiscally responsible manner, I hope the Senate finds the will to proceed in the appropriations process.”
