McCarthy: American Energy Security Critical – Not Guaranteed Under Current Administration’s Policies

Oct 18, 2012

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-22) released the following statement regarding this Administration’s policies that are limiting America from reaching its full potential as a world leader in energy production.

“Over the past few days, this Administration has claimed to support increased domestic energy production. Unfortunately, their rhetoric doesn’t match reality. To set the record straight, media outlets and Congressional committees have identified increased energy production as a success of private innovation and initiative – in spite of increased government regulations and production moratoriums on federal lands.

“This afternoon, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will address the role energy policy plays in American diplomacy. Previews of Secretary Clinton's remarks make it clear that the Secretary acknowledges the fact that increasing domestic energy production will provide millions of jobs at home and enhance our strategic position abroad. Unfortunately, to achieve the diplomatic results suggested by the Secretary, the Administration must change course on its energy policy. For the past two years, House Republicans have taken action to safely and responsibly increase domestic energy production, create a stronger American economy and enhance our energy security, but Senate Democrats have continued to block our efforts at every turn. We urge the President and Senate Democrats to show leadership and give our domestic and diplomatic efforts a chance to thrive.”
