Final Environmental Report Clears Path For Keystone XL

Jan 31, 2014

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) made the following statement on the release of the State Department’s final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement on the Keystone XL pipeline:

“The fact that the Obama administration is still mulling the approval process for the Keystone XL pipeline shows tremendous ambivalence towards a project that is in our nation's best interest. The release of the latest Environmental Impact Statement provides no contradiction to what we have known to be true about the project for years; that its impact on global emissions is negligible, it will create jobs, and it will reduce North America’s dependence on foreign oil. Last June, President Obama said that the determining factor on whether or not he will approve the Keystone XL pipeline is its impact on global emissions. With the release of today’s report failing to outline negative impacts, there is absolutely no reason left for the President not to approve this project immediately. Every additional day he waits, he continues to send a clear message to Americans, and our ally Canada, that despite the President's rhetoric, the only interests he is willing to promote are those of the far-left environmental movement.”
