National Agriculture Day
Mar 25, 2014
Today marks National Agriculture Day. It’s an opportunity to recognize the abundance of resources available thanks to the hard work of farmers all across the country.
In California, agricultural production is a way of life. About 47 percent of jobs in the Central Valley are related to agriculture in some way. That’s why it’s critical to help these farmers feed our nation and conserve our most precious resource – water.
Recently the Golden State has been hit hard with one of the worst droughts in our state’s history. Even though California farmers are among the most efficient users of water, more needs to be done to help preserve their way of life in these dire circumstances.
The Senate ought to take up California water legislation passed by the House to the floor for a vote. Since both Senators from the Golden State have decades of seniority, getting Majority Leader Harry Reid to schedule a vote should be nothing more than parliamentary procedure.
